ProgramsA full-time Fire Department, Edina paramedic/firefighters not only act to save lives and property, but also facilitate several programs that improve the quality of life in the community. Blood Pressure Readings. Firefighter/Paramedics provide blood pressure readings daily at Fire Station No. 1. Readings are available each day of the week from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Life File. Edina's "Life File" is available for download on the City's website. Click Here. The Life File is an emergency medical form used by Paramedics during an emergency. Residents are asked to download, print and fill out the form. The form should then be placed in an envelope marked "LIFE FILE" and affixed to the outside of the refrigerator. Paramedics/firefighters look for the Life File envelope when they arrive at the scene of a medical emergency. The program has proved valuable in cases where a victim is unable during an emergency to provide the medics and hospital staff with such things as health history and emergency contact telephone numbers. Smoke Detector Installation. The Fire Department installs smoke alarms equipped with 10-year batteries in single-family homes of qualifying homeowners. Paramedic/firefighters install the detectors, one per floor outside of sleeping areas. Residents who live in apartment buildings, condominiums or other multi-dwelling buildings are not eligible for the free program and should call their property managers, as they are required to maintain those systems. Fire Department personnel are available for testing, installation and safety survey checks the second Friday of every month. Appointments, which last approximately 45 minutes each, are available between 8 a.m. and noon. Smoke alarms are donated by Jerry's Hardware. VEAP Donations. Fire Station No. 1 collects food donations year-round for Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People (VEAP). During the holiday season, toy donations may also be dropped off. VEAP serves families in Edina, Bloomington and Richfield. For more information, contact the Edina Fire Prevention Bureau at 952-826-0330. |
