New Edina police officer sworn in
Edina, Minn., Dec. 9, 2011 – Derek Toll was recently sworn
in as the Edina Police Department’s newest officer.
Toll began work as a
Police Officer Dec. 5. City Clerk Debra Mangen administered the oath to him Dec.
6. Toll was sworn in with Chief of Police Jeff Long at his side and surrounded
by his fellow officers, family and friends. Toll’s father, former Baudette
Police Chief Larry Toll, pinned his badge, No. 197.
Toll recently
graduated from Alexandria Technical and Community College with a degree in law
enforcement. He worked for the past seven years as a paramedic.
“Derek
has a passion for his work. We know Derek will do a great job for the Edina
Police Department like he did most recently in Sartell,” Long said. “He has
already made a difference in the lives of those he serves.”
Toll beamed
with pride during the brief ceremony at City Hall. “There were a lot of roads I
had to go down to get here. Ten years later, here I am,” he said. “Without the
support of my family, I wouldn’t be here. I couldn’t be prouder or happier.
