Transportation Commission

Sustaining,
improving and operating a
sound street and transportation system are integral parts of the long-term
vision of the City, consistent with its Transportation Plan. Congestion on
the regional roadway system and the failure of that system to accommodate
the continued growth in traffic volumes has created and exacerbated
traffic volumes, speed and congestion on local streets. As such, these
deficiencies are adversely affecting the quality of life of the City’s
residents and businesses located in the City.
The Edina City Council in December 2003
established the Transportation Commission to address these issues and
improve the local transportation system to stay consistent with the
Comprehensive Plan and Vision 20/20.
The Edina Transportation Commission (ETC)
advises the Council on matters relating to the operation of the local
street system with respect to traffic volumes, congestion, and functional
classification -- but not maintenance activities -- of the City. The ETC
reviews and comments on plans to enhance mass transit opportunities in the
City. The ETC evaluates methods for traffic calming and other speed and
volume mitigation measures and recommends their implementation where
appropriate. The ETC reviews the findings of the Local Traffic Task Force
and offers recommendations for implementation.
The Transportation Commission is made up of 11 residents appointed by the
City Council. Current members are Katherine Bass, Thomas Bonneville, Ann
Braden, Vice Chair Nathan Franzen, student Haley Housh, Chair Jennifer
Janovy, Robert McKlveen, Paul Nelson, Elin Schold Davis, student Steven
Schweiger and Michael Thompson.
The Transportation Commission meets at 6
p.m. the third Thursday of the month.
All meetings are open to the public and held in the Council Chambers
at Edina City Hall, 4801 W. 50th St.
Quarterly meetings are aired on Edina Community Channel 16 at 3 a.m., 11
a.m. and 7 p.m. Mondays and 6 a.m., 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. Thursdays, and air
