Public Comment Period Now Open for GrandView Development
Framework Draft plan released in January after two-year process
Edina, Minn., Feb. 1, 2012 – The 52-member GrandView Steering Committee has
released a draft summary of a development framework for the GrandView
District that, if approved, will guide future redevelopment in that area of
northwestern Edina. A team of residents and business owners has been working
for two years to develop a vision for the area off of Minnesota Highway 100
and Vernon Avenue.
Last year, the Steering Committee developed a
work plan and retained professional consultants with the help of a $100,000
grant through the Metropolitan Council’s Livable Communities Act. Numerous
focus groups and workshops were held to gather input from residents,
business owners and other interested parties. After numerous sessions, the
Steering Committee has released to the public a draft version and opened a
45-day public comment period.
The Committee is asking the public to
review and comment on the draft framework. Comments can be submitted online
at bit.ly/grandviewcomment; by sending an email to edinamail@ci.edina.mn.us;
by filling out comment cards available at Edina City Hall or the Edina
Community Library; or by writing to Kevin Staunton, Edina City Hall, 4801 W.
50th St., Edina, MN 55424.
“Our community-led process has broken new
ground for Edina,” said Steering Committee Chair Kevin Staunton. “We have
worked hard over the past two years to organize community members and other
key stakeholders. We are extremely proud of the work that has been completed
and look forward to public reaction to it.”
As this phase of the
process comes to a close, the public will also have two opportunities to
weigh in on the plan at public hearings. On Feb. 22, the Planning Commission
will host an open house followed by a public hearing. The Edina City Council
will consider approval of the final plan on April 17. At that meeting, the
public will have another opportunity to provide public testimony.
